I just had to write an outline of this speech. Yes my prof who has a hard on for outlines thought that this was a great speech. It is not. I ripped it to shreads. My position on this 'war' is irrelavent. It's a shitty speech.

A speech Senator Robert Byrd gave on 2/12/03

I. Attention Getter.
A. Use scary words and phrases.
1. most horrible
2. brink of war
3. horrors of war. A. Tell them that unlike the citizens of this country, the Senate does not have balls.
III Pull out the thesaurus, throw away the history book, and use common phalluses .
A. Forget that the reason for the Korean Conflict was fear of the domino effect.
B. Use slippery slope scare tactics.
C. Over simplify the issue of keep nuclear weapons being left on the table.
D. Use Anti-Americanism and September 11th in the same sentence.
IV. Continue Scare tactics.
A. Remind them of the current negative climate of the country.
1. Tell them how angry and scared Americans are.
2. Remind them that is it bad to anger and scare voters.
V. Complain about the current administration
A. Tell them how the president is to blame for the bad economy of today and tomorrow.
B. Tell them the president is mean to old people.
C. Tell them the president can not provide homeland security.
1. Appeal to the Republicans. Make it seem you like are concerned about homeland security.
VI. Point out the faults in the administration's foreign policy.
A. Use the current favorite scapegoat bin Laden.
1. remind them that he hasn’t been found.
2. Blame Bush.
B. Tell them the administration has destroyed not only the UN but also NATO.
1. Tell them it will be that way FOREVER!
2. Tell them we now look like war hungry bastards.
3. Tell them we now look like big dumb bullies instead of diplomats.
a. Give examples of such name calling.
i. calling heads of state pygmies
ii. calling other countries evil.
iii. telling our friends they are irrelevant.
b. Bring up we need those same friends to help us fight the war.
4. Just for good measure, bring up the possibility of another homeland attack.
C. Claim that all the money spent on the war in Afghanistan was wasted.
1. Bring up bin Laden again, just for the heck of it.
a. State AGAIN that he hasn’t been found.
b. use a slippery slope and insinuate that he will rise again to power, and kill us all.
D. Ask who will take power after Hussein.
E. Bring up all possible countries that might attack after we do.
1. Muslims attack Israel
2. Israel attack everyone else.
3. Jordan
4. Saudi Arabia
5. Iran
F. Threaten the possibility of a world wide recession, forgetting the fact there already is one.
VII. Conclusion
A. Get the thesaurus back out, and find more big scary words and phrases.
1. reap disastrous consequences
2. savage attacks
3. amorphous, fleeting enemy
4. destabilizing and dangerous
5. horrific infliction of death and destruction.
6. unimagined horrors of chemical and biological warfare
B. Bring up September 11th again.
C. Insult the Audience again.
1. Remind them multiple times they still have do not have balls.
2. Add that their penises are small.
D. Directly attack that judgment of the President.
1. Say he’s killing children.
E. War is not necessary.
1. We are wrong.
2. Maybe we back out gracefully.
3. Blame Bush.
