Tonight Becky and I went over to my parents house so I could do some laundry (do you know it would take me a week to do in my tiny washer what that one can do in just 2 loads? Amazing). We ordered pizza and sat down stairs making use of the Cable. We watch and episode of Bill Mahar and the decided to watch Psycho 98 because we both agreed that we were very curious about it.

And I have to say I was very much impressed. I enjoyed it a great deal.

I've never been a big psycho fan. I personally just found it boring. I dunno. ...I didn't really find it creepy, I didn't get emotionally involved in the characters. ..I even fell asleep at one point the first time I watched the original.

Van Sant said the reason he remade this film was to connect it with a younger audience, and I agree with that. I'm sure at the time it was made it was very creepy and shocking,...but I found it boring,...so what did this director do to make it more interesting while keeping it essencially the same?

First off, The color. I've read arguements that Hitchcock could have made it in color if he chose, but decided not to, as to keep the film noir, gothic, impending doom aspect of the film. The black and white put me to sleep, but seeing an awesome pink suit. And some bright orange and green, that really caught and held my attention.

Also, as much as we love old actors....nothing makes an old film more boring than watching actors you don't know. This is why we go see Every Angelina movie. or every Ed Norton film. We went to fall these actors that we connect with. I love Vince Vahaun, so watching him in a fantastic performance of an emotionally unstable man was fasinating. I cared about the sister because it was Julianne Moore. Hell, seeing Viggo Mortenson's lovely tanned back and his bare firm ass really gave me something to be excited about, and definately drew me into the film. Becky is in agreement here.

I read people critizing the way the actors choose to play the roles. I thought it was fasinating! We are not culturally the same as back then, so why should a modern woman respond to a situation the sames as one back then?

Over all, I loved this film when I hated the original. we modern cinephiles are looking for the shock and twist around the corner, we already know the outcome. We already know that Rosebud is a sled even though we haven't seen the movie. It took a new voice to point out to us what was so great about the orginal, and what's so distrubing about the story.

Honestly I think this is something I need to own very soon, and watch again very soon!
