So I've been thinking alot lately about humor and how different interpersonal groups have a different sense of humor.

For example, my circle of friends. B, C, J, and Me. ...Now our humor is very much a race to see who can come up with the best one liner the fastest. ("I mean, just how much sperm can one person swallow in a day?") And so because of this we all have gotten very good, and very fast at this. So those times when we are outside of our group, we are still rapidly firing one-liners much to the amusement of those who are not used to it. And at the same time I am often quite perturbed when people try to do a good one-liner and fail miserablly, but because no one around knows the difference, that laugh anyway. ("'They are so thirsty for leadership that they crawl though the desert towards a mirage, and when they get there, they drink the sand''They don't drink the sand because they are thirsty, the drink the sand because they don't know the difference.'")

For example...the other day in my painting class we were looking at this one woman's work which she creates wooden abstract figures and places them in a narative context. They are really freaking. (and I'm spent the past hour trying unsuccessfully to find a picture of her work...see after while the purpose was shifted in the pursit. I just wanted to find one of those damn things just because I had searched so long for one. ...but alas, I was beating.)

anyway...Her work was made out of wood, and one of the figures in one of the slides had a rather large erect penis. ..Now of course there is a rather obvious one-liner that can be made with the idea of the penis..and the wood...blah blah blah. To easy. No...a good one-liner is to take the obvious and go 5 steps down from it. like...this one time I was looking at a painting of Adam and Eve, Eve being pragnat, and I turned to someone and said "how do you know it's mine?"....thus being clever because that being a typical guy thing to say, so adam being a typical guy would say it...but his being the only guy around .....makes it funny.

Anyway....so I know there could have been a joke made about the whole wood thing, But since I couldn't come up with an especially good one, I said nothing. ..but someone in the class did in fact say, "That's must have been where the got the idea for wood'. bad bad! not funny, but everyone laughed.

Anyway, back to my orginal point....the point is the every group of friends has their own humor that evolves and is very distentive. I think it would be a interesting study.
