my Statue of Liberty t-shirtMarch 19, 2003 2:28 a.m. Related Reading So we're on the Brink of war...and what do I write about? my Statue of Liberty t-shirt. Do you remember when The Statue of Liberty was restored? Well, my family went to New York for the 'unvailing'. Part of the comimoration of this event t-shirts were made. I had a pink one, my mom had a blue one. ...Now in recent times I lost mine, but found my mothers...which I've been wearing since around 9/11. ...It was just ironic that I found it around that time. ..I liked it not for the patriotic aspect but rather the fact that it was a pretty blue, and really comfort able,..and looked good on me. Yet, now a days it takes on a whole new meaning. ...what does the shirt look like? it has a picture of TSOL on the front and on the back. The front is how we're used to seeing it, the back it's under scaffling. The caption on the front reads, "Made in France".
The back reads, "Repaired in America".
I didn't realize until today as I was putting it on that this shirt could really get me harassed without even realizing it. ...Especially since I often wear my green sweater with it...therefore only showing the front. My innocent shirt that was made when I was 5 is now a gigantic slap in the face to all those who are now boycotting France. It's reminding all those people that the ulitmate symbol of America (aside for the Flag) was orginally French. ...So as long as we have the statue of liberty it doesn't matter what we do to show are anger for the French,...we look like hypocrites. .....all this I'm saying with a simple shirt,...purely by accident. ...And the truth be told, I am so middle road in regards to this war that I don't want to make that type of statment,...I just want to wear my shirt. Isn't that insane? Or merely Ironic. |
