![]() Episode IIIMay 19, 2005 10:33 p.m. Related Reading So on a day when everyone is doing Star Wars Reviews....let me tell you. Becky's family are all sci fi Dorks. All of them. So. About 3 weeks ago Becky's youngest brother organized a plan to get them all (5 total) tickets for the Mid Night showing of Episode III. However, when the hour finally rolled around, her father decided he would rather sleep. So who gets the extra ticket? ME! BOO YAH! Now...admittedly, I'm not that kind of dork. ..Yes I like my Vampires, and My Dragonlance books, my Comic books!. I Like My X-Files, My Alias ...I've been reading a ridiculous amounts of Fantasy books. Reading one right now...preparing for the next in the series...and then of course read all the Harry Potters again before book 6 comes out.....I'm totally into Enterprise. I, dare I say it, Became a Buffy Freak. Whatever cool points I that I'd aquired from reading Michael Cisco, or Graham Hancock....or watching all sorts of pretentious film....of that that....out the window....I have become a complete and utter dork. But...I am not of the Star Wars. I never have been. Becky has been trying though. Until recently I had yet to ever watch any of the original Trilogy in it's entirety. Now I've see the first 2. ....the only Star Wars I had seen was Episode I simply because I was with people on wanted to watch it, and they put it in....I was just along for the ride. ..but...I was excited about going to the midnight showing, see the dorks out and dressed...it was priceless. Becky's family has a tendency to be late for things. Now...they did get their early for this.....but...still late...We were at the very very back of the line. instead of trying to move everyone though the loby at the same time....the lined everyone up and the various theater exits,....so there were atleast 4 different long lines. When it was our turn, we filed in and got our snacks...popcorn, drinks, and sour patch kids. ...the power of suggestion....just smelling the popcorn made my stomach full from a recent dinner...crave popcorn. We filed into the theater...it was PACK. Not an empty seat in the house...we managed to get 3 seats together...but the others had to sit on their own. We had a few jedi's in the crowd just behind us. A guy and a girl with amazing costumes. And the end of our row, sitting next to becky there was a girl with long blond hair, and bright blue eyes...perfect skin...cheerleader model type....wearing a black T-shirt that read, "The Force is Strong with This One". As the previews started...the dork trailers started. We got Narnia (and now Becky has a boner that will last till the December release..such a dork) and Batman....I was hoping for the Goblet of Fire trailer...(have you seen it yet?!?!? DUDE! IT ROX!!!) The movie started, wasn't a fan of the dizzy start...but that's okay. On a whole I decided it was pretty and interesting.... Then once the action started really picking up....and things got really interesting.....right after Aiken crossed over to the dark side. (Note the cheerleader next to Becky was crying as he crossed over)....the screen went black, and the music grew intense. It was a moment of brillent cinema until we all realized that the bulb in the projector had gone out. We all mumbled with disbelief...looking back towards the projector...waiting for someone to realize there was a problem, but nothing happend....the music grew more and more intense...and still nothing. then a guy, dressed all in white, sitting on the second level...jumped up and ran at full speed into the lobby to tell someone. When the lights came up...I along with a few others took the opprotunity to use the restroom. When I got back I learned that the manager had come in to tell us that he was going change the bulb and that it would take 15-20 minutes...and we wouldn't be able to rewind, we'd have to start the movie right where it was turned off. So we got up and got drink refills....we had various conversations. At one point I believe the Asst. Manager came in. I was a tall, lawkying dork himself...bleached blond hair and black nerd glasses....he was so nervous...so frightened,..He told us that the theater would be giving us Emergency Tickets that we could use for any movie at any time within the next 90 days. .....the natives were restless....not exactly thrilled....angry dorks,...be afraid, be very afraid. as he left conversation resumed. I even saw friends I hadn't seen in forever and went to talk with them. As I was doing so....the frightened...REAL Manager came in, not the blond movie nerd...but the older man in charge. ..He told us that he had been trying for the past 20 minutes and he was unable to figure out what went wrong with the projector and was clueless to how to fix it. As he was talking the Jedi's behind us stormed out...as well as others. The Manager said he would be around in the office if anyone had issues. People grumbled as the filed out....one guy even threw his tub of popcorn across the theater. We decided to be the last people to leave....we weren't all that upset....yes we were annoyed but we weren't one of the livid out for the manager's head. But we did see the people surrounding him in the office demanding their money back, I even saw him go over and get a draw so he could give them refunds...I suppose. Now...I feel for the manager. It wasn't his fault....he didn't want that to happen. And As formentioned. I'm not of The Star Wars.... Had that been the new Harry Potter Movie...that I had bought my tickets early for...and stood in line....and even dress up for. ....had I driven 2 hours to watch it with friends....I would have been Livid!!! So Angry! Throwing things, Shouting, Punching walls....it would not have been fun. So now....I have to go watch the whole thing again....and I think I would have been fine with not seeing it at all....or again..... But ya know....those Jedi backflips at will are pretty damn sexy. |
