Interview Question 5, Donnie Darko

Interviewer: Yeah, I'm a Dork!

I might be breaking the rules a little. I think I want to devote an entire entry to answering each question. I believe I'm keeping with the spirit of the game. I believe the point is that the interviewee takes the time to write a really thought out response to each question, as opposed to a one word response. by doing it this way I and can devote the deserved attention to each response. Also, I like to keep my entries from getting too long, this way it is short and to the point.

5. You claim to be a movie addict. What the fuck is Donnie Darko about? Because I felt like a fucking retard when I finished that movie. I have seen it like four times and I still have no idea. Please help me.

Okay, sweetheart, if you've watched it four times and don't get it....you're trying to hard. I've only watched it once. I thought about watching it again before answering the question, but I was in the mood to write ...so I figured,...eh..why bother.

First off, the boyfriend and the flat mate both love this film, ...I personally, not so much.

Now, what is it about? Well, quite simply it is about a man with schizophrenia. Pure and simple. It is basically his tale. Everything else is left up to speculation and interpretation. One could say we are to take the entire film at face value ..as reality, or we could say that it is Donnie's Reality. ...Does time travel exists and Donnie’s more open to seeing the holes in time because of his illness,...or is it all apart of his illness. ...I'm somewhat inclined to think that the entire film is bent to his reality, everything from the cursing at he beginning, to the kiddy porn. I’m gonna guess that none of it happened it a all in his head, as well as his entire relationship with his girlfriend. He's bending reality in his head to show him the world has he wants to see it. Now, at the same time is illness does send him fuck up shit like the rabbit guy. I honestly don't think the plane crash was even real, it's all in his head.

People would like to think it's about this guy who was fucked up and knew he didn't belong in this world and martyred himself. ...and while I don't believe that is the case.....that's the way of looking at it that I didn't like. The idea ...Well I don't belong in this world so I'm going to Kill myself....I took it to mean ..."Well, sometimes the world really is better off if you're dead" which is a very fucked up message to send out in to the world, and while I support their right to say and do what they want...but...really, saying it's okay to kill yourself? No.
