So at the prompting of Mr. Coffee I added Donnie Darko to my list of movies to see. I went to my parents house for the day and saw my friend Becky who is my weird movie watching friend and she asked me if I had seen it. She apparently loves it and owes it on DVD so she came over and we started to watch it.

You know what I discovered in the opening seconds of the movie? Donnie Darko's sister is played by the actors real sister, and that real sister is the lead actress in Secretary. So I stopped the movie and ran out to Blockbuster to rent it (so we could watch it afterwards..my pick)(Ended up buying it instead of renting, yea for previously viewed dvds). I find it interesting and amusing that brother and sister are both the leads in cult films dealing with dark subject matter. My friend said that she didn't the the looked related in DD, but when she saw Secretary she said the resemblance was obvious.

So what's the Raven girl's take on this film? Well, I loved the writing. The humor was hysterical. I was laughing really hard thoughout. Very intelligently written. and the love story was beautiful.

The kissing scenes again made me want to kiss someone.

However, I really did not care for the ending. (don't worry I won't give it away) It is my opinion that this film should not be seen by someone with really intense depression or suicidal tendencies, I really think it could push them over the edge. I mean, thank god for my defense mechanism that causes me to disassociate from things quickly by analyzing them because who knows what I would have done otherwise.

Needless to say I did not care for the ending, ruined the film for me. The film was too good to send that type of message out into the world. I can understand how a person could write this script as a means to express the emotions that are tomenting them, but....I dunno, it might have been a bit nieve of them not to consider the implications of the ending.
