| What I'm doing now artisticly September 13, 2002 11:28 a.m. Related Reading So I haven't written much one what I've been doing artisticly for awhile. After I finished my Dante series, and had my show, I was really blocked artisticly for several months after that, because I had been working on that series for a year, and I had been perfecting that technique since I graduated highschool, so that show was basicly the penical of that way of working, and I had to find something new. I starting doing some color studies, wanting to maybe work with color again, brighter color and more of it. ...See I used to be really known for my color and then I started experimenting with a limited palette. ..So now I decided to go back to my color and maybe work with glazing. But, in my drawing class we had to do this graffiti type project....using words and text as design. So he wanted us to write a word and then though mixed media make the image look like what the word meant. ...I chose the word 'discarded' and I gather up alot of pieces from the scrap metal pile, and wired them together, as well as using twine....And I just loved the whole process! I was so much fun! So with that ...I found my new way of working. I am now doing accemblege. I am building up a surface using found object, from wood to metal, and then painting the surface. I am playing with the ideas of positive and negative space. ...that with is positive space and that which is negative space. I have fun fooling the viewer. making them thing something is sticking out and 3d when it's not...and vica versa. My work has been compared to that of Louise Nevelson. However, she is working much larger than I. ...My pieces would be more like one of her boxes within the piece. She also paints her accembages a flat color showing the beauty of their shapes and placement. ...where as I am painting like I normally paint with color and composition ...and at the same time attempting to hide the objects. We had a critque the other day in my painting class and my prof side that it seems that I have found and new way to work in cubism, which is impressive because it has been worked pretty much every possible way.... So yea for me, I am very excited about what I'm doing. |
