pick a favorite

I don't know if I've bitched about this yet, I become very annoyed when I read someone's profile and they feel the need to list every movie that they have ever seen and enjoyed, or every band in their cd case.....or every author they have ever read.

It's a list of 5 favorites. Grow some balls, make a decision and list 5. Look, I'm a movie dork...I've seen alot of movies....a number of which I enjoy. I own a fair amount of them, and I don't feel the need to advertise this in my profile because....I dunno....it's pretensious I guess. it's like....see I'm cool because I've seen (copying from an actual profile, * by the ones I personally haven't seen ..note things like KPax and Ice Age I have no desire to see ever, - by the ones I didn't like):

Moulin rouge, the boondock saints, waking life*, chicago, matrix 1- & 2, -finding nemo, fisher king, anastasia, rocky horror, neverending story, -what dreams may come, -stand by me, ever after, *cast away, *cabaret, pi, requeim for a dream, *nge, girl interrupted, north, *deep impact, patch adams, good will hunting, -pearl harbour, *ice age, --a beautiful mind (this movie fuckin' sucked! WAY overrated), hackers, kevin smith movies, empire records, *the war, the lord of the rings, Breakfast at Tiffany's, hedwig and the angry inch, cowboy bebop, *bowling for columbine, dead poets society, yellow sumbarien, -rainman, *titan ae, *pump up the volume, big fish, fight club, *broken hearts club, AI, -pay it forward, monty python, big chill, little mermaid, beauty and the beast, -breakfast club, *kpax, ghost world, -saving private ryan.

The point is....I've seen most of those. Listing alot of movies in your profile doesn't make you cool....it means that you are trying way to hard to look like a movie dork and trying way to hard for people to think you're cool. The point is to list favorites. I have Underworld listed as a favorite. That might not win me alot of credibility (I think people underestimate that movie) but ya know what? It's one of my favorites. Instead of bragging about what you've seen, tell me why you liked it! or...in my case most of the time I use quotes to say why I like it. ....some of the time those quotes will only be understood by someone who has seen it and/or understands it. For example, for Secretary I have the quote, "Because I don't want to". The context in the film is someone asking a girl who has her hands flat on a desk (because her dom told her to put them there, and not move them till he comes back..) ...Why she doesn't move her hands. Her response is...'Because I don't want to." it's not because she can't, or the guy will hurt her if she does. It's not because he's making her.....it's simply because she doesn't want to. And that to me sums up all dom/sub games. I am submissive because I want to be not because I'm forced to be. .....To me that quote sums up the whole film, and if you've seen the film and you read my profile you will know exactly what I'm referencing. and if you understand the film, you'll know why. I read one girl's profile and she had a quote from that film and it was "in a way that feels right to me" and I was so excited to read that because here was someone else who had seen the film, understood it and picked an original quote.

I also use quotes because I think they show the wisdom of the film that is the reason for my liking, for example the current Trainspotting quote, "I believe we're heterosexual by default. It's all about astetics and fuck all to do with morality".
