So I'm a bit ashamed of myself for not writing this review sooner.

My friend Aric was in town again (hence the delay in an entry...don't like to use the computer while I have guests in the house) and I have a tendency to throw movies/films at him that he hasn't seen...as opposed to going for classics.

One of the ones I threw at him last night was 21 Grams.

I mentioned the brillance of this film back when I saw it the first time. I bought it as soon as I could, but last night was the first time I watched it since I bought it. And I have to say that it is one of those films that maintains it's power upon a second viewing. I found myself being sucked in and emotionally affected as I was the first time. In some respects maybe more so.

After my first viewing I was stunned into silence for the rest of the evening. Last night, not so much, but I held back tears more last night then before. maybe I just was alittle more emotionally raw than before.

After watching this film again I am even more angry with the Academy for the best picture nominations from last year. As I've said before Lost in Translation is absolutely horrible and should NOT have been nominated. Mystic River was also not good, and a big disappointment. Haven't watched Cold Mountain yet, but I will in the next view days. (Yea Netflix). But Those are 2 movies that are just such gigantic disappoints that I really think 21 Grams should have had a best picture nod. I would really put it on par with Return of the King --though there really wasnt' a better example of a movie than RTOTK and it deserved the best picture nod, simply because it was so well done on every level and it was so epic. Yes emotionally powerful independant post modern films are worth celebrationing....but the sheer achievement of the the Lord of the Rings triliagy needed to be awarded and is so unparalleled.

But 21 Grams....wow. it really is one of the most powerful films I've ever seen.

And the performances!!! I love Naomi Watts. I have loved her since Mulholland Drive. Having seen Mulholland Drive, 21 Grams, The Ring, and Ned Kelley, ...I think I can safely say this is her best performance. And this is the best performance I have seen from Benicio Del Toro. And well....I know Sean Penn won the price for Mystic River, in which he was very good, but I think he was better in this. Plus he was just so good looking which is a plus and rather unexpected because he has never really done much for me in that department.

Really if you're looking for something that will really emotionally effected you, cause you to think about life and ponder for hours after....maybe even depress you a bit, make you cry.....this is definately a must see.
